Installing Wind-US Documentation on a Local System

Any or all of the HTML version of the Wind-US documentation may be downloaded and installed on a local system. To do so,

  1. Create a parent directory for the documentation (say, "wind_docs") and cd into it. [These instructions assume a Unix system is being used, since that's what I'm familiar with. Windows PC users will have to do their own translation. Sorry.]

  2. Download each of the following files by clicking on the link while holding down the shift key, assuming your browser supports this capability. A dialogue box will appear for you to specify the directory and file name to be used on your local system. Use the wind_docs directory you created in step 1, and the file names shown below.

        index.html   Wind-US Documentation Home Page
    whatsnew.html   The "What's New" page
    install_local.html   This page
    wind.css   External style file
    blank.gif   1x1 blank gif image
    external.png   External link symbol
    install.tar.gz   Wind-US Installation Guide
    user.tar.gz   Wind-US User's Guide
    gman.tar.gz   GMAN User's Guide
    madcap.tar.gz   MADCAP User's Guide
    cfpost.tar.gz   CFPOST User's Guide
    utilities.tar.gz   Wind-US Utilities
    cff.tar.gz   Common File User's Guide
    guidelines.tar.gz   Guidelines Documents
    changes.tar.gz   Changes from previous versions

  3. Unpack the ".tar.gz" files:
       gunzip -c install.tar.gz | tar xvf -
       gunzip -c user.tar.gz | tar xvf -
       gunzip -c gman.tar.gz | tar xvf -
       gunzip -c madcap.tar.gz | tar xvf -
       gunzip -c cfpost.tar.gz | tar xvf -
       gunzip -c utilities.tar.gz | tar xvf -
       gunzip -c cff.tar.gz | tar xvf -
       gunzip -c guidelines.tar.gz | tar xvf -
       gunzip -c changes.tar.gz | tar xvf -

  4. Point your browser to the file index.html in wind_docs to open the Wind-US Documentation Home Page.

Note that this installs only the HTML version of the Wind-US documentation. It does not include the other material at the web site, such as the PDF version of the documentation, the web statistics, documentation for older versions, or AIAA Paper 98-0935. It also does not include the Wind-US Developer's Reference, which has restricted distribution. Links to those files in the locally-installed Wind-US documentation will not work.
