Spray Bars

The Icing Research Tunnel has 10 spray bars with 100 nozzles on each spray bar.

The spray bars produce supercooled water droplets that form a 4 ft. high by 6 ft. wide ice cloud.

Each red circle on the spray bar is a nozzle that produces super cooled water droplets.

The IRT's refrigeration system can produce temperatures as low as -40oF year-round.
