(10/2004) - IT'S New and Improved ! RocketModeler II
Design and check the Stability of different rocket types, measure trajectory, customize the height of the body tube and nose cone to adjust the height of the rocket, change fin height and length, add stages, calculate center gravity, center mass and rocket mass, specify the engine, parachute diameter, and much more!

5/5/03 - NASA Virtual Visits via Webcast

As mentioned on the NASA Education homepage the NASA Virtual Visits are available via webcast. With permission from each of the schools these sessions will allow you to sit in and view NASA engineers and scientist interact with students and educators across the U.S. You can also interact by submitting your questions via the submission form.

(2/11/03) - NASA Announces Explorer Schools Program

NASA Explorer SchoolsReaffirming its commitment to education, NASA is announcing the new NASA Explorer Schools (NES) program, which replaces its existing NASA Educational Workshops (NEW).

Administered by NSTA, the Explorer Schools program encourages teams of 4-5 science, mathematics, and technology educators from a school or district to apply for a three-year partnership with NASA. Educators will receive NASA-unique scientific content, advanced technological tools, and sustained professional development to develop rich learning opportunities in mathematics, science, and technology. An exciting component of the program will engage students and parents. Fifty school teams will be selected for the 2003 program.

(8/16/2002) - The Internet Scout Project has selected the, Glenn Learning Technologies Project
, for inclusion in the National Science Digital Library Report for Math, Engineering, and Technology (August 16, 2002). The report is a biweekly current awareness publication that highlights new and newly discovered Internet resources in these areas. We take care to cover only the most useful resources, considering the depth of content, the authority of the source, and how well the information is maintained and presented. News of Special Interest
(6/17/2002) The American Book Company has recently used a section of "The Beginner's Guide to Model Rockets" as an example of an educational web site in the research chapter of their secondary schools' workbook. The page they are using is a portion of the "Brief History of Rockets." The American Book Company specializes in test preparation books and software for high school graduation tests and exit exams.

Poskole Conference in the Czech Republic

On April 12, 2002, with the help of our interpreter, David Ulbrich, Lawrence Williams (Director of Studies, Holy Cross School, UK) and Ruth Petersen co-presented at the Poskole 2002 Conference in Lazne Sedmihorky, Czech Republic. Poskole, which began in 1997, is a seminar about computers in school and is sponsored by Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic.

Lawrence began the 90-minute presentation with an introduction to the many uses of technology tools by the Holy Cross School, primarily in drama, art, and music and, more recently, science. Ruth introduced the Glenn Learning Technologies Project (LTP), which includes the Beginner's Guide to Aeronautics and NASA Virtual Visits. More Info.

During the week of July 23, 2001, a workshop called Japan 2001 Science, Creativity and the Young Mind took place at Bristol University in Bristol, England. Coordinated by the Clifton Scientific Trust, it brought together 60 British and Japanese students and provided them with a forum for learning and interacting. One of the aims of the Workshop was to give the combined group a new view of themselves as potential scientists and an ambition to succeed at the highest level.


COSI Toledo Partners with Glenn Learning Technologies Project

NASA Glenn Learning Technologies Project is partnering with the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Toledo, Ohio, on a problem-solving, interactive distance learning project for Ohio students and teachers. The COSI iSCI Project (interactive SCIence) utilizes distance learning technology and project-based learning methodologies to form a series of connections.

COSI's iSCI Project is comprised of three major components. Each component builds on prior information and experience. These components include:

  1. iSCI Curriculum Companion
  2. iSCI Interactive Session
  3. iSCI Web Site

COSI Toledo is in the process of developing materials related to two connections with Glenn researchers during May 2001 on the question "Should Teens Travel in Space?" Additional sessions will be scheduled in Fall 2001. For more information, go to the iSCI web site



The NEW beta 1.5 version of the FoilSim II program,
is now available and you are invited to participate in the beta testing. If you find errors in the program or would like to suggest improvements, please send an e-mail to
benson@grc.nasa.gov.

With this software you can investigate how an aircraft wing produces lift by changing the values of different factors that affect lift. You can also investigate the role of aerodynamics in pitching a baseball by using another interactive version of FoilSim II.
