We know from a study of our own planet that
climates of long ago were different than climates of today. The
fossil record suggests that some areas on Earth, now frozen, were
once tropical; and that areas now desert were once wet and fertile.
An intriguing question, particularly if we are to speculate abut life
on Mars is: Was Mars always as dry as it is today; or, was it once
warmer, wetter, and more hospitable to life?
