Wind-US is a computational platform which may be used to numerically solve various sets of equations governing physical phenomena. Currently, the code supports the solution of the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations of fluid mechanics, along with supporting equation sets governing turbulent and chemically reacting flows.
Wind-US is a product of the NPARC Alliance, a partnership between the
NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) and the Arnold Engineering Development
Complex (AEDC) dedicated to the establishment of a national,
applications-oriented flow simulation capability.
The Boeing Company
has also
been closely associated with the Alliance since its inception, and
represents the interests of the NPARC User's Association.
The current version of Wind-US is 4.0. A list of the major changes from previous versions is available. Documentation for Wind-US 3.0 still exists, but is no longer being maintained. Documentation for earlier versions has been removed.
In addition to the documentation for Wind-US itself, documentation is also available for various pre- and post-processing programs used with Wind-US, and for various "guidelines" developed for use by the NPARC Alliance during software development projects.
Most of the documentation is available in both PDF (generated using
pdfTeX
and the
hyperref
package) and HTML form.
The PDF files may be viewed and/or printed using a variety of freely
available software packages, including
Acrobat
Reader
,
GhostScript
, and
xpdf
.
The HTML version of the documentation is also available for
installation on a local system.
In the PDF documents, hyperlinks in blue are internal to the document. Hyperlinks in red are external, mostly to other Wind-US PDF documents. These external links will not work when the PDF document is viewed by opening it through your WWW browser. They will work if you download the various Wind-US PDF documents to your local system, storing each document in its own subdirectory under a common parent directory, and open the document locally using a viewer like Acrobat Reader.
The NPARC Alliance also maintains a CFD Code Validation web site. The objectives of the site are: (1) to provide documented validation and example cases, with downloadable input and output files, for Wind-US; and (2) to provide analytical, computational, and experimental validation data for use by the CFD community in general.
An NPARCtalk mailing list is available for discussion of NPARC Alliance software, including Wind-US and its associated utilities. To subscribe, fill out the subscription form at the NPARCtalk Information Page. You'll receive an automated welcome message when your subscription is activated. Subscription requests are sent to the list owner for approval, so there may be a short delay. Once your subscription is activated, you may send messages to the NPARCtalk mailing list by addressing them to nparctalk@lists.nasa.gov. An archive of the NPARCtalk mailing list is also available, to list subscribers only.
Note - Users here at NASA Glenn should see the Wind-US at NASA Glenn page (GRC addresses only) for details on how to access Wind-US and its associated pre- and post-processing tools.
