VIRTUAL AERONAUTICS EXPLORATION - NASA GLENN LTP
The NASA Learning Technologies Project (LTP) is
NASA’s educational technology incubator. LTP funds activities
and collaborates with endeavors that incorporate NASA content
with revolutionary technologies or innovative use of entrenched
technologies to enhance education in the areas of math and science.
NASA’s renewed focus to education means not only inspiring
our youth but also providing educators with the tools they need
to teach math and science and to improve the country's scientific
literacy. We need to be more creative in furnishing the math and
science tools to inspire our younger generation to pursue these
inquiries. In short, we want to make scientific discovery, research,
and exploration cool and exciting so that kids are drawn by natural
human inquisitiveness to learn more. If we don't motivate our
younger generation, in kindergarten and on through high school,
there is little prospect this generation will choose to pursue
scientific disciplines later.
Project Objectives:
- Develop a 3D immersive application that
will run on multiple computer platforms to visualize and increase
understanding of aeronautics principles.
- Develop 3-5 inquiry activities based on
National Math, Science, and Technology Standards that incorporate
the 3D immersive application.
- Provide guidelines for developing student
activities and supporting information for teachers for an online,
immersive environment.
