There are several parts of an airplane. To simplify, a plane can be divided into five major sections identified below: 1) the powerplant includes the engine and propeller which create thrust; 2) the airfoils or wings include the ailerons and flaps which create lift; 3) the fuselage is the main body of the plane and carries weight; 4) the empennage includes the tail, stabilizers and/or elevators for keeping the plane flying straight; and 5) the landing gear includes the wheels, brakes and shocks.
