 "Wahe." That means "hello." My name is Korpun and I am a warrior from the Indonesian rain forest. My clan has lived on the western half of New Guinea for hundreds of years.If our world is ever uninhabitable, I would be an excellent person to take along. I fight with courage and can hunt just about anything with my dog Agung. Agung helps me when I can't find any pigs for dinner. He is also my best friend. I can fulfill my hunger with just about anything, insects included.I am studying to be a biologist. I have been educated by a benefactor, who had contracted Malaria while on an expedition in the jungle. I befriended him after his guide disappeared. I nursed him back to health. The man offered to take me with him, so that I could see the world. Before that, I had never been outside of the rain forest. My clan allowed me to go after consulting the spirits, on the condition that I return within one year. The things I have learned have helped my people survive better in the jungle. As close as I am to my clan, I long to see new places. Take me with you on your great adventure. I will not fail you. |
