HAYA - MALI, WEST AFRICA
My name is Haya. I am 15 years old and a member of the Berber tribe. I live in the Sahara Desert in Mali, West Africa, with my sister Dina. My people are farmers who grow citrus fruits, cereals, and olives. We get our water from nearby springs and underground irrigation. To escape the heat, we build our homes in the dirt. We have two pet camels, Abu and Ebu. Camels are great because they can withstand the heat and are able to store large amounts of water in their bodies.

The Berbers have adapted to extreme weather conditions. The lack of water and the heat are only a few of the problems that I face every day. I have had to learn how to adapt, conserve, and to be able to survive in the desert. I think these qualities make me a great asset to your adventure.
