In support of the propulsion controls and diagnostics research, the Intelligent Control and Autonomy Branch (RHC) maintains various controls and simulation development facilities as well as experimental facilities. Primary among them is the control design lab which allows the capability to use computer aided control design tools and auto-generation of control software for implementation on real-time control hardware systems. RHC also uses a fixed-base piloted simulation facility to perform engineering man-in-the-loop evaluations of advanced propulsion control concepts. Although most of our active component control experimental validation is performed in facilities managed by other organizations, such as Combustion Branch for active combustion control, Turbomachinery Branch for active flow control etc., RHC maintains lab facilities which allow preliminary evaluation of advanced concepts as well as hardware-in-the-loop evaluation of control components.
