Exploring Virtual Reality in the GRUVE Lab

The virtual reality environments available in the GVIS and GRUVE labs support simulations of exotic environments and phenomena not otherwise possible. Some of the possible VR applications include:

  • Fully immersive inspection of complex flows in jet engine combustors and inlets
  • Simulation of the appearance and behavior of smoke in a microgravity habitat for fire detection and visibility studies
  • Collaborative engineering using shared-virtual environments at multiple NASA Centers
  • Interfacing a VR display with advanced treadmill and exercise equipment as a counter-measure for disorientation on long-duration space flights
