Types of Airplanes:

Airplanes are generally distinguished by the type of propulsion they use. Generally, there are three different types of airplane:
  • Prop airplane
  • Turbo jet airplane
  • Turbo prop airplane

The prop plane, shown above, has a reciprocating engine that turns a propeller. A reciprocating engine is the type of engine in a car. It has cylinders and pistons. The name "reciprocating" comes from the fact that the internal parts move back and forth. The prop plane is good for low altitude flying.
