Seal Flow Test Fixture LFF2
Linear Flow Fixture #2 (LFF2) is an ambient temperature flow fixture designed to quantify the capacity of seals to limit gas flow through an interface gap (Fig. 4). The LFF2 seal test fixture is unique because it can be used to test seal samples against actual interface materials (CMC surfaces, ablator materials, etc.). These evaluations create an interface more representative of installed vehicle conditions. Seal samples up to 5 in. in length can be tested at varying levels of seal compression up to 100 psig. The results from testing in this rig are used to determine initial suitability for specific applications as well as generating data for fluid dynamics and thermal models.

  • Gas: Air
  • Pressure range: 0 – 100 psig
  • Flow range: 0 – 3000 SLPM
  • Gap range: Variable
  • Seal compression range: Variable
  • Seal diameter: Variable
  • Seal length: Up to 5 in.
  • Sealing surface: Variable
