Activity

If so instructed by your teacher, print out a worksheet page for these problems.

  1. Predict the mass of the gas molecules in this classroom.

  2. A. Determine the mass of gas molecules in the classroom. [The instructor will establish the parameters of the classroom's shape; ignore irregularities].

    B. Within your group, decide on the materials and information that are required and list them in the materials section of your worksheet.

    C. For assistance, click on Air Properties Definitions and/or Gas Density in the Beginner's Guide to Rockets.

    D. Write a step-by-step procedure that your group will follow.

    E. Have the instructor approve your work before obtaining materials and proceeding.

  3. A. How does an increase in altitude affect the mass of gas molecules in the atmosphere per unit volume, or air density? Use the table to record your answers.
