Quantitative Testing
Answers

Along with the worksheet, a report should be submitted (written or presented). Use information gathered on the worksheet to help prepare the report.

Explain the information that you gathered. State its relevance to the parameters you will be setting in FoilSim.

Answers will vary. Students will produce a report of their findings.

State the speed and angle required for your computer generated wing model:

for .25N: 10 km/hr 5º

for .5 N: 14 km/hr 5º

for .75 N: 18 km/hr 5º

Record your observations during the bicycle's movement.

Trial One with 25 grams - distance traveled: 50m time taken: 20s

Trial Two with 50 grams - distance traveled: 50m time taken: 15s

Trial Three with 75 grams - distance traveled: 50m time taken: 12s

Calculate the speed of each trial: Trail One: 2.5m/s (9 km/hr) Trial Two: 3.3m/s (12 km/hr) Trial Three: 4.2m/s (15 km/hr)

In your report, graph the theoretical and actual speeds of your wing model. Using the error analysis methods we have discussed, calculate the error involved and what could have caused this error.

Answers will vary. Students should produce a bar graph comparing the theoretical and actual speeds of their wing model for Trials One, Two, and Three.
