To solve this problem you must first realize what each of the letters in the formula are:

Next you simply substitute the numbers you have for the letter in the formula

In this case r = 3 inches and s = 6 inches.

The symbol which looks like this: is known as PI and can be approximated by 3.14

A = 3.14 x 3 x 3 + 3.14 x 3 x 6

A = 3.14 x 9 + 3.14 x 18

A = 28.26 + 56.52

A = 84.78

And this is rounded to 85.

What is the surface area of a cylinder whose radius is 5 centimeters and whose height is 10 centimeters? Use the formula:

A equals 2 pie R H plus 2 pie R squared
