After years of research, including observations of birds, Otto Lilienthal generated tables of air lift values at varying incidence angles. The Wright Brothers tested these results by using a bicycle on which they had attached a horizontal wheel to the front. On each side (left and right), they placed wing models which allowed them to test the angle data.
