Objective: The learner will state the
3 states of matter, and give examples of each
Time: Approximately 45
minutes
Whole
Group Activity
Materials:
Previous day's KWL
form
Chart that lists Solid, Liquid, Gas
Procedure:
1. Review previous day's lesson and
definition of matter.
2. Now that we know what matter is, list
examples of matter (i.e., desk, chair, pencil, milk, steam,
etc.)
3. The teacher will identify three solids
and ask, "What do these have in common?" (The teacher is trying to
get the students to identify solids, liquids, and gasses from the
list.)
4. Put up a chart with headings, SOLID,
LIQUID, GAS.
5. The students will suggest examples of
matter that fit each category.
6. Closure: What are the 3 states of
matter?
Evaluation: Given
examples of matter, the students will be able to categorize them
correctly.
Extension: Have students
find 3 or more pictures showing examples of the three states of
matter.
