Sorry
This answer is incorrect.
This problem requires that you know what the prefixes
mean.
- pico means trillionth
- nano means billionth
- micro means millionth
- milli means thousandth
- kilo means thousand
- mega means million
- giga means billion
- tera means trillion
With that in mind, lets look at each of the
answers
- first answer
- Milligrams for the weight of a textbook. A text
book weighs about 1 Kilogram therefore to measure it in
milligrams would mean that it would take 1000 milligrams just
to make one gram and then 1000 grams to make 1 kilogram. This
would mean that it would take 1,000,000 milligrams to equal 1
kilogram.
- second answer
- Kilometers for the length of a sailboat. Even a big
sailboat would measure only about 60 meters. Since a kilometer
is 1000 meters it would mean that a big sailboat would measure
0.06 kilometers.
- third answer
- Grams for the mass of a nickel. This the correct answer because
the mass of a nickel is approximatly 5 grams.
- fourth answer
- Liters for the capacity of a reservoir. The
capacity of a reservoir would more than likely be trillions of
liters of water, therefore using teraliters would be a better
choice.
Now let us try another one
