Description:

  • Measures thermal conductivity of solid bulk .
  • Sample conductivity measured under vacuum with sample placed between two isolated thermal references forming thermally insulated columns to eliminate conductive losses.
  • Two end references heated to different temperatures.
  • Thermal conductivity calculated by measuring thermal gradient through sample.

Features:

  • Temperature control of two end references for 50 to 1000 degrees C.
  • Bell jar uses mechanical roughing pump providing 10-3 Torr vacuum level.
  • Measurement accuracy within 20 percent.

Research Projects:

  • Measures thermal conductivity of graphite composites and LiF, used as thermal storage material in solar dynamic power systems.
