Director's Message

January 14, 2008

Center Director Woodrow Whitlow, Jr.
TO: Glenn Employees, Onsite Contractors, NASA Exchange, and Resident Personnel
FROM: A/Director

SUBJECT:

Diversity Message

"Diversity Maturity" is a phrase coined by Dr. Roosevelt Thomas, Jr., a 20-year veteran of developing and implementing innovative concepts and strategies for maximizing organizational and individual potential through Diversity Management. "Diversity Maturity signifies a deep clarity about fundamental concepts of diversity and certain sophistication in thinking and understanding; the ability to put the principles into action on a daily basis."

The NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) strives to do just that-increase our diversity skills and understanding day-by-day as our diversity strategies translate into action. By taking advantage of our diversity, NASA GRC can thrive in a wide variety of views, ideas, and perspectives that provide the most effective system designs. Our efforts in research and development are beautiful examples of this. By effectively managing diversity, we create opportunities for innovation that increase our role and visibility in the NASA mission. By engaging in dialogue, we improve customer satisfaction and foster cooperation and collaboration among industry partners.

In each instance where we actively establish and support a work environment that embraces an individual's and team's creativity and differing perspectives, we enable the Center to be more effective and passionate in helping the Agency fulfill its mission. It is hard to find fault in a philosophy like that one.

Woodrow Whitlow, Jr.
