Advanced General Aviation Transport Experiment
Propulsion Sensors and Controls Work Package

The Controls and Dynamics Technology Branch handed over the management of this project to the
AGATE project office in 1997. For any additional information regarding this project and other AGATE
activities, please go to:

The AGATE Program
The goal of this government, industry and university partnership is to develop technologies for safety, affordability, and ease of use for single pilot, single engine, near all weather transportation aircraft and related training, airspace, and ground infrastructure systems.
AGATE Organizational Structure
Background
Current certified general aviation aircraft use engine control
technology developed over 50 years ago. In contrast, automative
engine control technology has progressed rapidly to the point
where nearly all automobiles sold today have electronic ignition
and electronic fuel inject controlled by an electronic engine
control.
Objective
Develop and validate guidelines, standards and certification
methods for certifiable electronic engine controls and diagnostics
to reduce direct operating cost, improve utility, simplify operations and reduce emissions.
