Medium-Scale Actuated Compression Fixture
The system is capable of characterizing the force-displacement behavior of seals and the load required to separate the joint (i.e., seal adhesion loads). With economical custom fixtures, seal specimens with diameters up to 15.5 in. outside diameter can be evaluated at refrigerated, ambient, or elevated test temperatures.

Capabilities:
  • Instron Model 5584 Electromechanical Load Frame
    • 33.7 kip (150 kN) load frame
    • 33.7 kip (150 kN) load cell capable of measuring loads under compression or tension (i.e., seal adhesion) at an accuracy of +/-0.25%
    • 33.7 kip (150 kN) actuator with 6 in. stroke
    • -3 to 3 in (-7.62 to 7.62 cm) measurement range with ± 0.05% accuracy
  • Instron Model 3119-407A2 Environmental Chamber
    • Test temperatures from -238 to 662°F (-150 to 350°C)
    • Large working volume [15.7 in (400 mm) W x 15.7 in (400 mm) D x 22.0 in (560 mm)H]
  • Medium-scale flow fixture hardware can be incorporated inside environmental chamber to perform seal leakage tests at refrigerated, ambient, or elevated test temperatures
