Explanation of Special Characters in This WWW Publication
This document uses some formatting from HTML 3.0.
- Greek letters are coded for the symbol font. Current versions
of Netscape and Internet
Explorer running on machines that have the symbol font will render
these symbols properly. Some other browsers, and those running on
machines without the symbol font, will show these letters as the
corresponding Roman letters: for example, epsilon will be shown as
the letter "e".
- Subscripts and subscripts are coded with the and
codes. Most newer browsers should interpret these codes properly.
- The lowercase letter "x" is used for the times sign. Some
special characters are replaced with their word meanings, like
"angstrom" and "infinity."
- GIF files are used for complex equations.
- Tables are coded in the HTML 2.0 format.
