Nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods are developed including holography, radiography, ultrasonics, acoustics, tomography, and thermography. NDE team capabilities include thermographic imaging for damage detection, certification of space flight hardware, development of wireless NDE for in-situ damage detection, and development of progressive damage modeling of composite structures. Embedded fiber optic sensors are used for health monitoring.

The NDE Wave & Image Processor Software Package provides Advanced Signal and Image Processing, Analysis, and Visualization Capability to NDE & Health Monitoring Engineers and Scientists.
|
- NASA Glenn Research has developed and released for distribution the NDE Wave & Image Processor software to allow display, processing, and analysis of NDE and Health Monitoring waveform- and image-based data. The software is wholly focused on the NDE professional but can also be used with other applications such as for signal processing of RF signals, and for image processing of many types of images and image series including those metallographic- and medically-based.
- This software offers the user advanced wavelet-based technologies for both signal and image processing in addition to many other conventional and advanced capabilities. The capabilities are provided in a useable commercial-grade graphical user interface. The software will be especially useful for broadband waveform-based scan data such as that from ultrasonic, terahertz, microwave and radar methods. Additionally, image and image series data such as that from computed tomography, thermography, shearography, and acoustography can be opened and processed. Also included is a model-based curve fit facility for spectroscopy data.
- The NDE Wave & Image Processor software includes an 80-page user manual and example data sets to allow the user to become familiar with the software operation prior to obtaining test data. The software, data sets, and associated documentation are bundled together in a .zip file and can be downloaded free of charge from http://technology.grc.nasa.gov/software. It is required to be a U.S. Citizen to download.
