I am a member of the Optical Instrumentation Technology Branch of the Instrumentation and Control Technology Division at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland Ohio I have been at NASA since 1985, and have worked on different types of optical instrumentation for application in turbomachinery, aeroacoustic facilities, pulse detonation flows, biological flows and microgravity experiments.
My primary duties involve the conception, design, fabrication, and integration of non-intrusive electro-optic measurement systems into propulsion system and aerospace simulation facilities. These new optical instrumentation systems contribute to the success of a wide range of research programs by providing data that was previously unobtainable or inadequate.
Primary Research Areas:
- Laser Anemometry:
- Developed systems for use in mapping high speed centrifugal compressor flow fields at GRC.
- Seeding:
- Developed pH stabilized technique used throughout the U.S. for seeding high temperature flows.
- Particle Image Velocimetry:
- Developed the "frame-straddling" technology which is now used in all commercial PIV cross-correlation cameras
- Developed the Symmetric Phase Only Filtering Technique for optimal PIV data processing
