High Precision Spin System Lab
Purpose: To implement rotor fault detection based on global (i.e., vibration based) monitoring approaches. Current work: utilizing Eddy current probes for shaft vibrations and capacitive probes for blade tip clearance measurements--
High Temperature Spin System Lab
Purpose: -- To implement rotor fault detection based on localized approaches. Current testing: PZT patches that “ride on the rotor” for passive (AE) and active (guided wave) ultrasonics as well as impedance based SHM. In addition the system is used to test feasibility of wireless technologies.
Photonics Sensors Evaluation Lab
Purpose: To evaluate optical components at temperatures up to 1000 C--
Luminescent Coatings Lab --
Purpose -- To develop and test optical measurement techniques using pressure and temperature sensitive coating technology.
Mechanical Characterization of Advanced Materials Lab
Purpose -- To conduct specimen scale material characterization studies on advanced metals and composites (PMCs and CMCs) while using in-situ NDE for damage assessment.
