7.25.2009 Dr. Mark Wernet receives the 2009 LaRC Center Team Award: As a member of the NASA Large Field of View Particle Image Velocimetry Development Team, Dr. Wernet will be recognized at a special ceremony that will take place on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at the H. J. E. Reid Conference Center. The team will be honored at this ceremony for outstanding achievements towards the Center’s mission and goals. (Points of Contact: Dr. Mark Wernet
6.27.2009 Supersonic Dual-Flow Hot Jets with Long-Duct and Internally Mixed Nozzles Tests Completed: The assessment of noise prediction methods is a major milestone in the NASA Fundamental Aeronautics program, which requires both good acoustic and flow data for jets of all configurations and flow regimes. Very little acoustic data and almost no turbulent flow data exists for dual-flow jets in the supersonic flow regime. The Supersonic Dual-Flow (SDF) Database Task is intended to address this deficiency with wide-ranging tests of dual-flow hot jets with long-duct, internally mixed nozzles. In 2007 and 2008, far-field acoustic spectra were acquired for a wide range of idealized nozzle geometries and static flow conditions. Testing in the Nozzle Acoustic Test Rig (NATR) was recently completed where Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) was used to characterize the flow field features of a wide range of nozzle types over a range of speed regimes. This test, SDF09, concentrated on flow field measurements using a large field of view PIV system to provide a database of flow field measurements in order to provide the linkage between the noise sources in the jet flow and the far field acoustic measurements acquired in previous tests in the NATR. Related data analysis is underway. (Points of Contact: Dr. Mark Wernet, and James Bridges
