Pin-on-Disk Test Rig

Testing Characteristics

  • Unidirectional sliding at 100 to 300 rpm (0.27 to 8 m/s)
  • Hemispherically-tipped pin loaded against disk through dead weights
  • Friction force continuously measured with load cell
  • Specimen heated with low-frequency induction coil up to 900 °C
  • Disk surface temperature measured on disk wear track 90° ahead of pin
  • Tests can be performed in controlled atmosphere (inert, oxidizing, etc.)
