Attendance And Leave

Standard Tours of Duty established by NASA Glenn consist of a 40-hour week, five 8 ½ hour days (including a 30 minute lunch period) Monday through Friday. Three standard tours are available: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., and 8:30a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Your supervisor will inform you of the specific tour of duty to which you have been assigned. A flexible working hours plan is also available to the student.

Annual Leave is earned at a rate of 4 hours per pay period for the first 3 years of service and 6 hours per pay period for more than 3 years of service. The leave is earned during each work period, may be accumulated up to 240 hours, and may be carried over to the next year. Annual leave is charged in 1/4-hour increments. Students must request approval from their supervisor in advance of using annual leave. Students separated from the program or resigning from the program will be compensated for any unused annual leave.

Sick Leave is earned at the rate of 4 hours per pay period. This leave is to be used for illness and for appointments with a doctor, dentist, or optician. There is no limit on the amount of sick leave that can accumulate for use in succeeding years.

Military Leave is granted to students who are members of the Reserves, National Guard, or Coast Guard for a maximum of 15 calendar days each year with full pay from military duty performed during a workperiod. Students must request advance approval of military leave by providing a copy of their military orders to their immediate supervisor. A copy of the military orders should be forwarded to the NASA Glenn Co-op Coordinator and Payroll Office.

Holidays are New Years Day, Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Co-ops returning to duty are eligible for holiday pay if they work the day following a holiday and are in pay status the entire day. Co-ops going on leave-without-pay are eligible for holiday pay if they are in a pay status the entire day preceding a holiday.

Leave Without Pay - Co-ops are placed in a leave-without-pay status upon completion of each work tour. The service computation dates (SCD) for Co-ops will be adjusted if LWOP exceeds 6 months in a calendar year.
