The Engineering Technology Program (ETP) is one of three
components of the High School L.E.R.C.I.P. This is an Agency-sponsored,
eight-week research-based apprenticeship program designed to attract traditionally
underrepresented high school students that demonstrate an aptitude for
and interest in mathematics, science, engineering, and technology.
This program offers hands-on work experience to develop
practical and theoretical knowledge, skills, and abilities in Electrical,
Electronic, and Mechanical Engineering Technology. Program activities
include a design project, fabrication, written reports, classroom instruction,
oral presentations, and a variety of enrichment activities, such as career
counseling and facility tours under the careful supervision of the High
School L.E.R.C.I.P. staff. Students will commute from home each day and
work with a NASA mentor.
Eligibility:
- Be a U.S. citizen who will be at least 16 years old by the time the
program starts in June.
- Demonstrate a strong interest in and aptitude for a career in science,
mathematics, technology, and engineering.
- Complete at least two math courses and two science courses with an
average grade of "B" or better in each course and an overall
average of "B" or better in all other coursework.
- Speak and write English at a level that does not require significant
assistance.
- Be willing to participate in a formal interview, if chosen as a finalist,
as part of the placement process.
- Be available on a full-time basis (Monday through Friday, 40 hours
per week) for the entire duration of the Program.
Salaries:
Interns receive a biweekly salary for their appointments.
If selected, details will be provided in the offer letter.
