Educational Programs Office LEWIS' EDUCATIONAL AND RESEARCH COLLABORATION INTERNSHIP PROGRAM (LERCIP) FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS Program Description This is an educational program that provides internships for students of science, engineering, professional administrative, and technical areas. Internships of an 8-week duration are available during the summer months at the NASA Glenn Research Center Cleveland, Ohio. The internships are offered under the auspices of Lewis' Educational and Research Collaborative Internship Program (LERCIP), a collaborative undertaking by the Educational Programs Office at the Glenn Research Center and the Ohio Aerospace Institute. NASA SHARP | NASA PLUS | ETP | LERCIP High School Application NASA SHARP (Summer High School Apprenticeship Research Program) is sponsored by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and managed by Modern Technology Systems, Incorporated (MTSI). NASA SHARP is for high school students (current sophomores and juniors) interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). NASA SHARP consists of two components, a commuter and a residential component. In the commuter component, students participate at NASA Glenn Research Center. The student must be a resident of the state of Ohio, and attend a school within a 50-mile radius of NASA Glenn Research Center. They will commute from home each day and work with a NASA mentor. Applications for the commuter component may be obtained from your local high school and will be available in January. To obtain a NASA SHARP application please review the LERCIP High School Application information. Applications for the residential component are obtained from the NASA SHARP web site www.nasasharp.com. Apprentices are placed at participating colleges and universities across the United States. Placement is solely determined by MTSI, and is not necessarily based upon the accepted applicant’s proximity to the location. Round-trip transportation between the student’s home and the host institution is provided, as are housing and meals (taxable). All residential participants will reside on the campus to which they are assigned for the entire duration of the program. Please visit the NASA SHARP homepage www.nasasharp.com for program eligibility, and other pertinent information related to the program. Point of
Contact: The NASA PLUS Program provides current high school sophomores and juniors with professional administrative internship opportunities. This program is unique to our Center and provide students with meaningful experiences in a research and development environment in order to expand the student's understanding of possible career choices in business and other areas such as education. Approximately 85 percent of the student's time is devoted to work experience while a NASA Professional supervises and serves as the students mentor. The remaining time includes enrichment activities such as: workshops related to NASA and its missions, written reports, oral presentations, career counseling, and facility tours. While the program is open to all equaly qualified candidates, minority (females, African Americans, Hipspanics, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders/Native of the Phillipines, Guam, American Samoa or Micronesia, and students with disabilities) are encouraged to apply.
