Cuyahoga
River Pollution
by: Paul Yu
Many might still remember
back in 1969 when the Cuyahoga River caught on fire because of the high
level of toxic pollution in it. The picture below provided by the
Plain Dealer is just one of the many reminders that made Cleveland the
laughing stock of the country. It is now the spring of 1998, but
the pollution in the Cuyahoga River continues to be a hazard to the public's
health.
The pollution of Cuyahoga
River have been a main concern of many special interest groups, nature
lovers, and government environmental agencies. Groups such as the
Sierra
Club, RAP,
CLIN
and EPA
have long tried hard to analyze and solve the pollution problem.
But to solve the problem, the public must be aware of the causes of pollution,
what polluted water can result in, and what the public can do to stop pollution.
