Installation Problems

Q: The slider will not work on the Mac OS 8.5.1.

A: Presently the stand alone version of FoilSim does not work with Mac OS 8.5.1 we are working to correct this problem. You can still view the applet if you have are using Netscape Navigator.

Q: When using the applet, you can not get the sliders to work or input any data.

A: This problem is dependant upon the web browser in which you are using. The applet does not work with the latest version of Internet Explorer, but does work with Netscape Navigator.

Q: When running the program, you recieve an error message such as: "Can't Load Custon DLL - GRAPHX.VBX"

A: Reinstall FoilSim. Follow the directions in this FAQ regarding use of a separate temporary directory for the setup files.

Q: I get a "Can't copy ver.dl_" error message when I try to install FoilSim.

A: This problem occurs on Windows 95/NT systems. The FoilSim program is a 16-bit program and attempts to copy it's 16-bit version of ver.dll to your windows/system directory during setup. If there is already a 32-bit version of ver.dll left from another program's setup it will not get replaced by FoilSim. You need to temporarily rename ver.dll and then rerun setup.exe:

1. Rename ver.dll to ver.bak
2. Run setup.exe again to install FoilSim.
3. Delete ver.dll and rename ver.bak to ver.dll again.

Q: I get a "Setup program terminating error" when I try to install FoilSim.

A: When installing FoilSim you need to unzip the installation files into a separate directory from the one where FoilSim will be finally installed. You can't install FoilSim in the same directory where the setup files are located. You should follow a procedure something like this:

1. Unzip the files into a temporary directory (e.g. c:/temp).
2. Run the program setup.exe, it will install the FoilSim files (e.g. In c:/foilsim).
3. You can then delete the unzipped installation files in the temporary directory.
