Boeing 747 History
The Boeing 747, first flown in 1969, is the largest commercial airliner, flying the farthest, and carrying the greatest number of passengers of any airliner. It has approximately 6 million parts. Current series design reflects advances in aerodynamics, structural materials, and avionics . The wings have been lengthened by 6 feet, and equipped with a winglet to increase total wingspan without exceeding the standard parking spot at an airport. It is also interesting to note that Air Force One, the "Flying Oval Office", is a 747, highly modified to meet the needs of the President.
Top speed of the 747 is near Mach .85.
