Stratofortress History

The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress bomber was nicknamed the "Coconutknocker." First flying in 1954, the B-52 is the primary manned strategic bomber force of the US. In the Air Combat Command of the Air Force, the B-52 was used extensively in the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. Equipped with electronic countermeasures, armed with missiles, mines, and bombs, and with an unrefueled combat range of 8800 miles, the use of the B-52 is projected to continue into the 21st century.
