Answers

Beginner's Guide to Propulsion
Maximum Flight Time
Subject Area: Algebra I, Physical Science
Grade Level: 9-12
National Standards:

Mathematics
Algebra - Represent situations that involve variable quantities with expressions and equations.
Algebra - Operate on expressions and solve equations.
Mathematical Connections - Use and value the connections between mathematics and other disciplines involving motion and force.

Science

Physical Science - Complete problems involving motion and force.

Technology

Technology Research Tools - Select and apply technology tools for research, information resources to meet needs for collaboration, research, publications, communications, and productivity.
Technology Problem-Solving and Decision-Making Tools - Routinely and efficiently use on-line information resources to meet needs for collaboration, research, publications, communications, and productivity.

Objectives:

After reading an explanation from a NASA Web site, you will demonstrate an understanding of the text by applying it to questions involving Maximum Flight Time and Range under varying conditions.

Click on the Beginner's Guide to Propulsion, a NASA Web site designed to help you better understand aircraft engine propulsion. Open the slides called Maximum Flight Time and Range - Summary (with text) and read the explanations of these topics. Using the slides as background information, complete the Maximum Flight Time Activity that is designed to demonstrate your understanding of these concepts.
Assessment:

You, or you and your partner(s), will be evaluated on the accuracy and/or feasibility of your answers.

Evaluation:

You will demonstrate your ability to use and understand the information found on the World Wide Web to calculate Maximum Flight Time and Range of aircraft.
