DISTANCE

Distance is the measurement from one point to another. This distance could be in millimeters, meters, kilometers, inches, feet, yards or miles. We can measure the distance from the floor to the ceiling or from one city to another.

Activities

• Measure the length of a room (classroom, bedroom, kitchen, living room, closet) by using your own shoe. Walk the distance heel to toe and count how many shoes it takes to reach the other side. Use a ruler to measure your shoe and multiply that measurement times the number of shoes for the length.

• Look at the map of Ohio. Which distance would be greater from Cleveland to Toledo or Cleveland to Dayton? What highway connects Dayton to Detroit? How far is it to Columbus from Cleveland? Use the chart below and find which cities listed are less than 150 miles from Cleveland.
