Aphelion
The point in an orbit around the Sun when an object is furthest from the Sun. For the Earth, this occurs on July 5th. The fact that the Earth is most distant from the Sun on July 5th indicates that the tilt of the Earth's axis plays a larger part in determining the four seasons than does distance from the Sun. In the southern hemisphere, the tilt of the axis and the distance from the Sun work together to create seasons.
