ON-SITE FAR FIELD NOISE MEASUREMENTS

NASA makes a housecall.
When engineers at Williams International needed a hand with a recent engine acoustics test, they turned to the experts at NASA Glenn. NASA Glenn Acoustics Branch engineer, Dan Sutliff, led a team to acquire noise measurements from the customer's engine being tested at their Outdoor Test Facility in Walled Lake, Michigan. The NASA-led team modified the site to obtain better far field noise measurements, installed the instrumentation, acquired the data, and interpreted the results. Collaborative research projects like this help NASA to gain insight needed to keep fundamental research relevant to the challenges faced by engine manufacturers.
