Requirement Documents

Science Experiment payloads that are being designed for on-orbit environment are required to meet stringent acoustic noise emission requirements. These requirements are specific to the intended on-orbit location and configuration in which the particular hardware will operate. All on-orbit noise emissions requirements must be test verified prior to launch.

For more information on ISS noise emission requirements, see the following publications:

"Payload Acoustic Noise Control Guidelines." D684-12190-01. The Boeing Company. April, 2005. (.pdf file)
Nelson, David. "Noise Emission Testing Requirements for Spaceflight Hardware." Proceedings of Noise-Con 2003. Cleveland, OH. 23-25 June 2003. (.pdf file)

Additional documents related to NASA's on-orbit acoustic emissions requirements may be found on the Boeing ISS Environments website.
