Materials & Structures

Welcome
Our research is focused on advanced high temperature materials and processes for future aerospace propulsion and power generation systems.

Primary material interests:

  • high temperature composites
  • polymer and polymer matrix composites
  • copper, nickel, and titanium-based alloys
  • ceramics and ceramic-matrix composites
  • environmental and thermal barrier coatings
Advanced processes of current interest:
  • polymer synthesis
  • rapid solidification
  • plasma spraying
  • powder processing
  • surface coatings
  • appropriate computational materials science modeling support
Advanced chemical, surface and microstructural characterization capabilities support all of these efforts. Research is conducted in-house as well as through joint interactive efforts with university and industrial scientists.
